Stem-Cam?
I’ve been looking at the helmet cams for quite a while. At over $300, they are kind of hard to justify to the wife. So I started looking for something that would attach to the handlebars and use my cheap digital camera to take video. I found this device called the Ultraclamp on Campmor.com for 19 bucks. I said what the heck, I’ll give it a try.

The Ultraclamp was so beefy, that I decided to mount it on the stem.

Today I decided to give the knee a try. RL invited me to ride a short 6 mile loop . I’ve been itching to ride for quite a while, especially because my Specialized M4 is sporting a new Marzocchi MX Pro ETA (Click here to read my first impression of the fork) The Ultraclamp never flew off nor moved while I was riding thru some tough terrain.

I took a few pictures while riding, needless to say, they are not very good. I also took video, that was pretty cool. Since this camera is on the inexpensive side, it does not have a ’shake-free’ feature. Click here to check out the video. (Be warned that is about 21 MB).

Hi, first visit to your blog and saw the report on the stem cam.. I just added something similar to my boat, but think it might be another option for bikes. I think I am going to purchase another strap mount to hold my GPS.
Anyhow, here are the links to two options, depending on where/how you want to mount to your bike:

I’d love to see some sample pics while riding - how’s the vibration?

[…] Some time ago I found an article about building a simple camera mount. There are other homemade solutions as well as options you can buy but for me they all have the same issue. The view is fixed to be ahead of the bike. What if you want to take a photo of something else? […]
