Boosting your MPG
So I created this little calculator from one of RL’s brainstorms. The premise of the calculator is to find out what the theoretical MPG of a gas/pedal hybrid car would be. Since both RL and I do a car/bike commute combination, I was curious to see how riding a bike to work can ‘improve’ my MPG. RL’s total commute is 20 miles. He drives 7 and rides 13. His car’s average MPG is 27. According to my nifty calculator, his new MPG would be 77.17 mpg!!!
But wait, If you think about it… A bus/car, a train/car or carpool/car combination also boosts your MPG. Why leave automakers and the oil companies dictate the efficiency of cars??? We, as a nation have the ability to do it ourselves. We just have to stop making excuses.
