My new ride: KHS Alite Team

I’ve never been a fan of hardtail bikes, but when the prospect of racing came up, I decided to build a super light race bike. I began with a KHS Team Alite frame:

The frame is so light, that my 7 yr old can easily hold it

I added a Vuelta USA wheelset, these rims are light, look bad ass and they were only $149 for rims, tires and tubes!

XTR Shifters, Hayes HFX 9 Hydraulic brakes, Ritchey logic and an Answer Carbon Fiber XC handlebars on the front

XT in the rear

XT and RaceFace in the middle.

My latest addition was a 2.89lb RockShox SID Race fork.
Total ‘bathroom scale’ weight: 23lbs

I was not able to race the bike this past Sunday, so I let Lance, our tester/writer from www.mtnbikeriders.com race the bike. I look forward putting some miles on this bike, who knows, I may become a hardtail lover.

I bought the frame from from Ebay for $289 from Bobsbicycles. The rest of the parts came from another bike.

I was lucky enough to buy that smaller frame online–the 15″–he settled best offer for $230. Bobsbicycles only has one 15″ also. Either way, you have to have this frame…It’s arguably one of the best frames to build from. Good luck w/ your search.
